Los Angeles, CA, October 31, 2018 -- The Keep A Breast Foundation has partnered with the Nashville Walls Project to create a mural in Nashville, Tennessee to educate music fans and the community about breast cancer prevention. Artist Skye Walker will be painting the mural live this weekend November 3rd-6th from 10am to 5pm in East Nashville on 2503 Gallatin Ave. Keep A Breast Founder, Shaney jo Darden, will also be there to create the signature Keep A Breast sculptures on women musicians. The painted breast casts will be placed on display at Nashville’s First Saturday Art Crawl at Studio 208 on November 3rd from 6pm-9pm.
The Keep A Breast Foundation is a global nonprofit organization with a mission to empower young people around the world with breast health education and support.
“I grew up on country music and it’s an honor to have this opportunity to bring The Keep A Breast mission to the Nashville community and to be able to work with such amazing local musicians and artists,” said Shaney jo Darden, Founder and Global CCO of Keep A Breast.
The Nashville Walls Project supports the creation of huge murals painted by street artists from around the world, covering the city with beautiful art. The project has opened new opportunities for local artists and added to the visual dialogue of the city.
"Nashville Walls is thrilled to be a part of this project because not only does it bring another mural to Nashville by an amazing artist, but it also raises awareness for an important cause" said Brian Greig, Co-founder of Nashville Walls Project.
Mural artist, Skye Walker is currently on a North American tour, collaborating with other muralists and artists to create inspirational public art. The mural he will curate and paint in Nashville will communicate the Keep A Breast message of encouraging early detection for breast cancer through self-check. The mural will depict a woman with three fingers to her breast. This symbol is the Keep A Breast campaign called #checkyourselfie.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of this mural project collaborating with The Keep A Breast Foundation and promoting breast cancer awareness here in Nashville, TN. I am humbled to be adding this piece to a city with so many amazing murals and artists,” says Skye Walker. “The theme of the mural focuses on a woman who is strong, aware and focused. She is also a visual metaphor for mother nature and how we, as humans, are all interconnected through nature and our environments. Mother earth is also very healing and important, especially for those affected with breast cancer and also those who are preventing it by being healthy and protecting themselves and their surroundings.”
