July 1, 2021- Keep A Breast Foundation announced a new cycle of grants to be awarded in response to the Give Back Grant program which was first launched in 2020.
The Give Back Grant was conceptualized by KAB Founder, Shaney Jo Darden who said of the program, “I created the Give Back Grant program to be able to put funds directly in the hands of BIPOC women who need it, without any red tape or lengthy application processes. Financial stress during cancer makes everything that much harder, especially during a pandemic. I hope these grants provide just a little ease and love during an already difficult time.”Â
The organization stresses the importance of awareness around this initiative and emphasizes that while breast cancer is more common in white women, the mortality rate for Black women is much higher. Different communities are disproportionately impacted by breast cancer and other diseases in different ways. KAB expresses the need to address these issues and discuss them openly in order to incite change.
In 2020 KAB awarded 16 grants at $500 each. The program was so successful that the KAB Team committed to continuing the Give Back Grant in 2021 but wanted to expand and grow the awardee pool.
$100,000 in grants to eligible BIPOC women breast cancer survivors
With the help of a Foundation Grant as well as individual donors and partners fundraising, KAB will award $100k in grants at $500 per grant. Awarding a minimum of 200 grants.
The applications process is made simple through Submittable and can be accessed through the KAB website. Applicants answer questions in regards to their diagnoses and continued treatment, as well as how they would spend the grant money, noting the use of funds is flexible.
How to Apply
The 2021 grant cycle is open as of July 1, 2021, and closes on October 31, 2021. Funds will be awarded by January 15, 2022.
Anyone who is a BIPOC woman living in the US who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or is a breast cancer survivor may apply.Â
How to Get Involved
100% of every dollar in the fund will go directly into the hands of women who need it. Those interested in donating to the Give Back Grant can donate directly to KAB and/or you can Fundraise for BIPOC women who are breast cancer survivors or have been diagnosed with breast cancer by visiting the fundraising page.Â
